Test and preview a campaign

Check personalisation and layout, then send test email or push messages before launch.

Check layout, content and personalisation before a campaign goes out. Preview the message as a contact, send a test email to your team or test push on your own device. Test sends are excluded from campaign results.

Preview as a contact

Previewing shows exactly what one contact would see, with their name and attributes filled in.

  1. Open the campaign and choose Preview on its email.
  2. In Preview as a contact, choose a Contact.
  3. Kirora shows the personalised email, including the subject and the Plain-text version.

A preview doesn’t check whether that contact is in the audience, has consent or is suppressed. It only shows what the content looks like for them.

In the email designer you can also switch between desktop and mobile widths while you edit. See Design an email.

Send a test email

  1. In the campaign editor, go to Review and send and choose Send test. You can also choose Send test on the campaign’s page.
  2. Under Send to, choose one of:
    • Me: your own address
    • A test list: a saved list of teammates
    • A teammate: anyone who has joined this workspace
  3. Optionally, change the Subject. Leave Mark the subject [Preview] turned on so nobody mistakes the test for the real thing.
  4. Under Personalize as, choose a contact to fill in merge tags with their details, or leave it on Fallback values.
  5. Choose Send test.

You’ll see who it was sent to. If one address fails, the others still go.

Tests can only go to people who have joined your workspace, not to customers. To check an email in a particular inbox, invite that address to the workspace or add a teammate who uses it.

Before your domain is verified, tests come from a shared test address. That lets you check your design while you wait for verification. See Set up a sending domain.

Save a test list

If you test with the same people every time, save them as a test list.

  1. In the test panel, open Test lists.
  2. Choose New list, give it a Name, and choose the teammates who should get tests.
  3. Choose Save list, then Back to the test.

Test lists are separate from groups, and never receive real campaigns. Deleting a test list doesn’t affect the people on it.

Test a push notification

On the campaign’s Push notification step, choose Send to my device. The notification goes straight to every device registered to the contact with your email address. Nothing is recorded.

For this to work:

  • you need a contact in this workspace with the same email you sign in with
  • your phone or browser must be registered to that contact for the chosen app. Your developer can help. See Set up push.

The editor also shows a preview of the notification as you type.

What to check

  • Personalisation: preview as a contact with missing details too, so you know the fallbacks read well.
  • Links: select every link in the test email, including buttons and images.
  • Mobile: open the test on a phone.
  • Sender and subject: check the from name, subject and preview text in the inbox list, not just the open email.
  • Footer: your postal address and unsubscribe link should appear on every marketing email.

Next step

When it looks right, schedule or send it.
