# List remembered merge tag fallbacks

`GET /v1/attributes/fallbacks`

Requires an API key with the `attributes:read` scope. [About keys and scopes](/docs/api/authentication)

The fallback last chosen for each merge tag in this workspace, so the editor can offer it wherever the tag is inserted. Editor memory only: a send uses the fallback written in the tag (`{{ contact.firstName | default: "there" }}`). A campaign or journey email skips a contact whose tag has neither a value nor one.

## Returns

Returns `200 OK`. Otherwise returns an error; [Errors](/docs/api/errors) lists every code and which to retry.
