# Delete a segment

`DELETE /v1/segments/{id}`

Requires an API key with the `segments:write` scope. [About keys and scopes](/docs/api/authentication)

Deletes the segment definition. Contacts it matched are not affected. Refused (409 `IN_USE`) while a campaign, journey or other segment uses it; see its usage.

## Path parameters

- `id` (string, required, uuid)

## Returns

Returns `204 No Content` with an empty body. Otherwise returns an error; [Errors](/docs/api/errors) lists every code and which to retry.
