# Delete an event name

`DELETE /v1/events/names/{name}`

Requires an API key with the `events:write` scope. [About keys and scopes](/docs/api/authentication)

Deletes the name and every event tracked under it, for a name sent by mistake; it cannot be undone. The name leaves the list and the limit at once, and its events are removed within the hour; until then tracking it answers 409 `CONFLICT`, and deleting it again 404. A name that a journey, segment, campaign or conversion goal reads is refused with 409 `IN_USE`, naming them in `details.usedBy`. `contact.*` names are recorded by Kirora and cannot be deleted.

## Path parameters

- `name` (string, required, 1–128 characters)

## Returns

Returns `204 No Content` with an empty body. Otherwise returns an error; [Errors](/docs/api/errors) lists every code and which to retry.

## Example

```bash
curl -X DELETE https://api.kirora.io/v1/events/names/Weekend specials \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KIRORA_API_KEY"
```
